Restore MS Exchange Server from your IBackup Professional account

The IBackup Professional ‘Exchange Server Restore’ wizard is a step-by-step guide to restore your MS Exchange Server ‘Public Folder’ store and the ‘Mailbox’ stores (Storage Groups/ Databases) from your IBackup Professional account back to the MS Exchange Server.

It is highly recommended that only technically qualified persons perform the MS Exchange Server restore operation.

The following steps are mandatory before initiating the MS Exchange Server restore operation.

Step 1
Start the MS Exchange System Manager from Start > Programs > Microsoft Exchange > System Manager.

Step 2
Right-click on the ‘Public Folder’ store/‘Mailbox’ stores that you need to restore and choose the ‘Dismount Store’ option.

Step 3
Right-click on the ‘Public Folder’ store/’Mailbox’ stores and choose the ‘Properties’ option.

Step 4
Select the 'Database' tab from 'Properties' and then enable the option 'This database can be overwritten by a restore'. Now, click 'Apply' followed by the 'OK' button to confirm the operation.

Perform the steps three and four (iii and iv) for all the databases that need to be restored.

Note: Once the steps mentioned above have been performed, it is recommended to close the ‘ MS Exchange System Manager’ before initiating the restore operation.

Please note that the restore operation will overwrite the existing databases on the MS Exchange Server. We strongly recommend you to take offline backup of MS Exchange Server databases that you need to restore before initiating the restore operation.

Restoring the MS Exchange Server database using IBackup Professional

Once the databases have been dismounted, login to the IBackup Professional application. Access the ‘Exchange Server Restore’ option from the main menu item: ‘Advanced Backup’> ‘Exchange Server’ > ‘Exchange Server Restore’.

IBackup Professional provides two options to restore the ‘Public Folder’ store and the ‘Mailbox’ stores (Storage Groups/Databases) to your MS Exchange Server.

Option 1:
Restore the MS Exchange Server databases backup from your ‘IBackup Professional account’ to the 'MS Exchange Server'.
Option 2: Restore the MS Exchange Server databases backup from your ‘local computer’ to the ' MS Exchange Server.’

Option 1

Restore the MS Exchange Server databases backup from your IBackup Professional account to the ' MS Exchange Server'. Please access the ‘Exchange Server Restore’ option from the main menu item: ‘Advanced Backup’> ‘Exchange Server’ > ‘Exchange Server Restore’.

Step 1
Select the Exchange Backup folder ‘IBackupProfExchBackupset’ from your IBackup Professional account. Please note that, even if you have to restore a single Storage Group or database, you must restore the complete Exchange Backup folder named ‘IBackupProfExchBackupset’ from your IBackup Professional account.

Step 2
Select a directory under ‘My Computer’ as a destination to restore the Exchange Backup folder ‘IBackupProfExchBackupset’. Click on the ‘Next’ button to navigate to the ‘Restore Wizard Confirmation’ screen.

Step 3
Click on the ‘Restore’ button available on the ‘Restore Wizard Confirmation’ screen to initiate the restore operation of the Exchange Backup folder named ‘IBackupProfExchBackupset’ on to your local computer.

Step 4
After restoring the Exchange Backup folder ‘IBackupProfExchBackupset’ on to your local computer, the following ‘Exchange Server Restore’ screen will be displayed. Here, the user has to click on the ‘Browse’ button to select the temporary location. The temporary location is used to hold the MS Exchange Server related files to run the ‘Hard Recovery.'

Now, select the required databases and click on the ‘Restore’ button to initiate the MS Exchange Server restore operation. The restore process (restore from ‘local Computer’ to ‘MS Exchange Server’) will take some time (depending upon your restore file size). During this process it is recommended not to interrupt the operation.

Please note that after a successful completion of MS Exchange Server restore, the restored databases (the ‘Public Folder’ store/Mailbox’ stores) would be automatically mounted on to the MS Exchange System Manager.

Option 2

Restore the MS Exchange Server databases backup from your ‘local computer’ to the ' MS Exchange Server’. Please access the ‘Exchange Server Restore’ option from the main menu item: ‘Advanced Backup’ > ‘Exchange Server’ > ‘Exchange Server Restore’.

Step 1
Select the option ‘Restore Exchange Server database backup from your ‘local computer’ to the MS Exchange Server. Click on the ‘Next >’ button to access the ‘Exchange Server Restore’ screen.

Step 2
Click on the ‘Browse’ button to select the IBackup Professional Exchange Backup folder named ‘IBackupProfExchBackupset’ from your local computer (the location where the Exchange Server backup folder ‘IBackupProfExchBackupset’ was restored earlier from your IBackup Professional account).

Select the temporary location by clicking on the ‘Browse’ button. The temporary location will store the MS Exchange Server related files, which are used to run the ‘Hard Recovery’ during the restore operation.

Now, select the required databases and click on the ‘Restore’ button to initiate the MS Exchange Server restore operation. The restore process (restore from the ‘local computer’ to the ‘MS Exchange Server’) will take some time as it depends on the size of the file to be restored). During this process it is recommended not to interrupt the operation.

Please note that after a successful completion of MS Exchange Server restore, the restored databases (the ‘Public Folder’ store/Mailbox’ stores) would be automatically mounted on the MS Exchange System Manager.
