What
are System state data?
IBackup Professional
refers to the following system components as system state
data:
-- Registry
-- COM+ Class Registration database
-- Boot files, including the system files
-- Certificate Services database
-- Active Directory
-- The system volume
Note: System state
backup is not a replacement for a full disaster recovery
solution that may include the backup of entire system
or the creation of recovery disks.

How do
I perform the system state backup?
To perform the system
state backup, please follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1. Select the system state data backup option
By navigating through the Menu Bar Advanced Backup
> System state data > System state data backup
Step 2. Select a temporary location
Click on the Browse button and then select
a temporary location on your local system to store the
system state data.
Step 3. Schedule backup
Using the Scheduler wizard, please schedule the backup
for a future date and time.
The system state backup file is in the standard Windows
format. You do not need to close all the applications/
programs that are running on your computer while executing
the system state Backup.

How do
I use the System Restore feature to restore
data?
You can use Windows backup to restore the system state
data. Following are the steps recommended to restore the
system state data.
Step 1. Download the system state backup file with
.bkf extension from your IBackup Professional account
using the IBackup Professional client application.
Step 2. Click on the entry, Start > Programs
> Accessories > System Tools > Backup
Select the Advanced Mode option
Step 3. Click on the 'Restore and Manage Media'
tab to select the .bkf file and the data you wish to restore.
You can also select the location of restore (this can
either be the original location or the alternate location
or even a separate single folder).
Step 4. Click on Start Restore to
initiate the restore operation. If you select the location
to restore as Original location, then restoring
the system state will always overwrite the current system
state, unless restoring it to an Alternate location.
Step 5. Click on the 'Report' button to view the
log file. Once you close the Report window,
you will be prompted with a system restart message to
make the respective changes to the system, once the restore
operation has been completed.

You need to restart the system in the Active Directory
services restore mode to restore the system state
data for domain controllers and follow the steps mentioned
in the System Restore to restore data.

No, you cannot select a shared or a mapped drive as
a destination for your system state backup.

additional/ external storage volume for system state backup?
No, you do not require additional/ external storage
for taking the system state backups using IBackup Professional.
Please ensure that the directory/ folder that you have
selected for the temporary location has free space of
about 1GB.
