How
do I select and backup my Outlook files? |
| |
You
may achieve this by using the 'Automatic Selection' feature. The 'Automatic Selection'
is a new feature introduced in IBackup for Windows version 9.x. By default, the
'Automatic Selection' wizard selects the list of the 'most common application
data types' and 'most commonly used user data' such as 'Microsoft Outlook', 'Microsoft
Outlook Express', 'Microsoft Outlook Address Book' etc that needs to be backed
up.
You can choose the 'Automatic Selection' option from the main menu 'Backup-Restore' > 'Automatic Selection'.
Or alternately you may access the same by choosing the option under
the main toolbar: Wizards > 'Automatic Selection'.

Why are online backups using cable Internet connections seem to be slow compared to downloads? |
| |
Cable
based Internet connections usually offer high download speeds and lower
upload
speeds, and the difference between the two could be as high as 10 times.
A
typical example could be an upload speed of 150Kb/sec, and a download speed of
1.5Mb/sec. While the IBackup application would usually run at speeds close to the maximum possible speed allowed by the Internet connection, it may vary sometimes depending on Internet bottlenecks at various points in the connection.
You can achieve
a significantly better performance using the IBackup for Windows application for
your backups due to compressed and incremental backups.
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
My
DSL/Cable connection to IBackup appears very slow. Why? |
| |
DSL/Cable
connections vary significantly with different speeds for uploads and downloads.
Usually you should be able to get near peak capacity of your DSL/Cable connection
for IBackup uploads and downloads. Please test your upload and download speeds
using this link and verify it against IBackup's transfer rates. Please note the
test results using DSL reports link are in Kilobits(Kb), and not in Kilobytes(KB).
You can compute KB by dividing Kilobits by 8.

Which
Application to be used for Server, Desktop or Laptop backups? |
| |
IBackup
offers many different ways and means for online storage and data access. Depending
on your storage and platform, you may choose the right application for your needs.
For Windows NT/2000
based servers, you may use IBackup
for Windows with the
Services option to backup your data. You may even
use third party backup applications such as Microsoft backup onto a file system
on your local network, and then transfer it to IBackup, or backup directly to
your IBackup account by network mapping your IBackup account using IBackup Drive. For
Unix based servers such as Redhat Linux you may use native FTP application such
as gFTP to store data from your servers.
For
desktops and laptops, IBackup for Windows standard version can be used, or a third
party backup application such as Microsoft backup can be used to backup onto the
local computer, which can then be backed up directly onto IBackup account by mapping
as a network drive using IBackup Drive.
For
department or enterprise wide backup system, you may combine the above mentioned
methods and tools with IBackup's Sub-Accounts system for simplified management
of data, billing and security.

How
do I backup k'My Documents' folder from 5 of our PCs on our LAN? |
| |
The
best way to accomplish backups from multiple computers is through use of Sub-Accounts.
This will prevent any 'clashing' of folder/file names between multiple computers
and overwriting problems. Simply create 5 sub-accounts, and have each computer
run a backup of 'My Documents' separately using IBackup for Windows application.Your
data from individual PCs will be segregated, while you still maintain one single
billing and admin account.
|
| |
 |
| |
|
| |
How
do I change my IBackup username and sub-account usernames? |
| |
IBackup
account usernames cannot be changed. Changing sub-account usernames is easy. Simply
delete the sub-accounts (please note this will not delete the data) from the sub-accounts
edit screen and create the new ones with appropriate folder mapping using advanced
option.

Can
I use IBackup to backup my entire PC and restore on another PC? |
| |
IBackup
can be used to backup your entire PC and then restore this data on to another
PC but there are certain things you should be aware of.
1. IBackup is
recommended for backing up of data files and not system files. Also some
of the system files could be open which might cause the online backups of system
files to be unreliable.
2. You need to make sure that the files you intended
for backup are actually backed up successfully after the completion of backup
process.
3. The most recommended application for backing up and restoring
entire PC is IBackup
for Windows.

Why am I getting a white blank space in the demo pages? |
| |
IBackup
uses Flash for animated interactive demos for the products. Flash plug-in is a
default plug-in with the latest versions of all browsers. If this problem occurs,
chances are that your browser does not have Flash plug-in.
You can download the
plug-in from
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages_mmcom/flash.html
This is a freeware
and will take less than a minute for installation from a standard 56K line.

How long will it take to transfer, say 500 MB of 'compressed' data, with my high speed Internet connection? |
| |
The time taken for online backups of your data depends on the speed of your Internet connection. If you are doing backups, then the upload speed will be more important than the download speed.
Please note that we are assuming an average compression ratio of 1:3 for the data (i.e. a 500 MB of un-compressed data will be compressed to about 170 MB of data). The compression ratio could be higher or lower depending on the type of files transferred. A text file or an Access database could have a compression ratio as high as 8:1 or a multimedia file, which is usually compressed by design to begin with, might have no impact with the IBackup's compression. So the time taken to transfer files could vary significantly, based on the type of files you transfer.

How
do I transfer entire folders without downloading any application? |
| |
To
transfer entire folders without having to download any of the applications of
IBackup, we recommend you to use WebFolders.
WebFolders is one
of the methods to drag/drop and cut-n-paste files between your PC and your IBackup

Does
IBackup support files larger than 2GB? |
| |
IBackup now supports files
larger than 2GB. IBackup for Windows has been tested to transfer files both ways
for files of size up to 6GB. While the transfers are accurate and have been tested
up to 6GB, size information displayed for files greater than 4GB may be incorrect
via IBackup for Windows. You can get accurate size information via Web-Manager.
Support limits for large files by other applications may vary.

|
| |
We
need to have our shared files set up so that if a document is being accessed from
one location, a message or warning will prompt the other location if the same
document is being accessed at the same time. Is this possible? |
| |
Yes,
you can do this by enabling Lock/Unlock feature from Web-Manager at the Preferences
under the Account Maintenance section. Locking functionality enables you to lock
the files/folders as a real time notification to other users in collaboration
with you to let them know of the status of the file and if the file is currently
reserved for modification. The user who is modifying the document should 'Lock
the file'. Other users will see that it is locked with an icon for folders and for files respectively.

Before
I login via browser, the site does not show pad-lock related to SSL encryption.
Is my login secure? |
| |
Once you enter your username/password,
subsequent communication is via 128 bit SSL including the username/password portion,
and others cannot view the information as clear text. You should also see the
pad-lock sign once you login. But when you just navigate to http://www.ibackup.com,
the site is not secure as with almost any site on simple navigation.

|
| |
Is there any way I can estimate the time required to backup 'xyz' amount of data? |
| |
Yes, you can estimate the time required to backup your data by making use of the 'Upload Estimator' utility given below.
|
| |
|
| |
Note: The upload time listed above is just an estimate, as your Internet connection speed will depend upon the traffic on your network and its performance. Also all these time estimates are for the first time transfer of data. Since incremental backups significantly consumes less time, but differ greatly on the changes to the file system, we cannot provide exact estimates on the same. |
