How
do I configure various IBackup products to work behind a Firewall
? |
| |
|
If you are behind a firewall and IDrivePlus does not connect, the
connection error is probably to do with the firewall settings. Please
ensure the firewall your are using allows access to IP "64.14.192.230"
for proper IDrive Plus functioning.
Please note
that you may need to adjust your firewall settings to allow access
to the ports 139 TCP to make IDrive Plus function properly.
If you are using
ZoneAlarm, follow these steps:
1. Open the
main window of ZoneAlarm and select the Security tab.
2. Click the Advanced button.
3. Click the Add button and select IP Address.
4. Enter "64.14.192.230" as the IP Address and "IDrive"
as description.
You may also
visit the IDrive
page's for troubleshooting tips and more information about IDrive.

How
do I select and backup my outlook files? |
| |
|
You can have an
online backup of your Outlook files which can be found in the following
path as 'outlook.pst' file(On Win 2000).
C:\Documents
and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\outlook.pst
Your outlook
has to be closed before backing up the 'outlook.pst' file.

 |
| |
|
How
do I view information on Billing/Receipts? |
| |
|
You can view
this information by logging into your online backup account, select
'My Profile' section and then click on 'Transaction Summary'.
|

|
 |
| |
|
Does
IBackup maintain versions of previous backups? |
| |
|
IBackup does not
have a provision to keep versions of previous backups. What you see
in your IBackup online storage account is what is available at any
point in time. If you want to keep versions, we recommend that you
backup to another home directory, or rename the files to simulate
versioning, or have multiple accounts. |

 |
| |
|
Why
online backups using cable connection seems slow compared to downloads?
|
| |
|
Cable based Internet
connections usually offer high download speeds and lower
upload speeds, and the difference between the two could be as high
as 10 times.
A typical example could be an upload speed of 150Kb/sec, and a download
speed of 1.5Mb/sec. While the IBackup application would usually
run at speeds close to the maximum possible connection speed allowed.
It may vary sometimes depending on Internet bottlenecks at various
points in the connection.
You can achieve a significantly better performance using the IBackup
For windows application for your backups, with compression and incremental
options enabled.
|
| |
|
 |
| |
|
My
DSL/Cable connection to IBackup appears very slow, why? |
| |
|
DSL/Cable connections
vary significantly with different speeds for uploads and downloads.
Usually you should be able to get near peak capacity of your DSL/Cable
connection for IBackup uploads and downloads. Please test your upload
and download speeds using this link and verify it against IBackup's
transfer rates. Please note the test results using dslreports link
are in Kilobits(Kb), and not in Kilobytes(KB). You can compute KB
by dividing Kilobits by 8.

Which
Application to be used for Server, Desktop or Laptop backups? |
| |
|
IBackup offers
many different ways and means for online storage and data access.
Depending on your storage and platform, you may choose the right application
for your needs.
For Windows
NT/2000 based servers, you may use IBackup
for Windows with the
Services option to backup your data. You may even use third party
backup applications such as Veritas Backup or Microsoft backup onto
a file system on your local network, and then transfer it to IBackup,
or backup directly to your IBackup account by network mapping your
IBackup account using IDrive. For Unix based servers such as Redhat
Linux you may use native FTP application such as gFTP to store data
from your servers.
For desktops
and laptops, IBackup for Windows standard version can be used, or
a third party backup application such as Veritas or Microsoft backup
can be used to backup onto the local computer, which can then be
backed up directly onto IBackup account by mapping as a network
drive using IDrive.
For department
or enterprise wide backup system, you may combine the above mentioned
methods and tools with IBackup's Sub-Accounts system for simplified
management of data, billing and security.
|
| |
|
 |
| |
|
How
do I use third party backup products such as Veritas Backup with
IBackup? |
| |
|
You may use IDrive
Plus or IDrive to define your IBackup's space as a network drive,
and then have the third party applications write directly to IBackup
online storage space. If the files are 'built' as in incremental backups
using Veritas Server edition, then IDrive Plus is the recommended
drive mapping application. Or, you may simply create the backup files
on your network and use IBackup for Windows to schedule transfers.

How
do I backup 'My Documents' folder from 5 of our PCs on our LAN?
|
| |
|
The best way to
accomplish backups from multiple computers is through use of Sub-Accounts.
This will prevent any 'clashing' of folder/file names between multiple
computers and overwriting problems. Simply create 5 sub-accounts,
and have each computer run a backup of 'My Documents' separately using
IBackup for Windows application.Your data from individual PCs will
be segregated, while you still maintain one single billing and admin
account. |
| |
|
 |
| |
|
How
do I change my IBackup username and sub-account usernames? |
| |
|
IBackup account
usernames can not be changed. Changing sub-account usernames is easy.
Simply delete the sub-accounts (please note this will not delete the
data) from the sub-accounts edit screen and create the new ones with
appropriate folder mapping using advanced option. |

|
Can
I use IBackup to backup my entire PC and restore on another PC? |
| |
|
IBackup can be
used to backup your entire PC and then restore this data on to another
PC but there are certain things you should be aware of.
1. IBackup is recommended only for backing up of data files and not
system files. Also some of the system files could be open which might
cause the online backups of system files to be unreliable.
2. You need to make sure that the files you intended for backup are
actually backed up successfully after the completion of backup process.
3. The most recommended application for backing up and restoring entire
PC is IBackup For Windows. For details, please see follow this link

How
do I turn off sharing on file/folder for which I have emailed url
links? |
| |
|
If you have shared a file
and would like to turn off the sharing on the file, simply rename
the file to something else. All the url links generated earlier
will not be able to download the shared file. You may achieve similar
results with folder renaming as well.

How
do I backup MS SQL Server, Sybase or Oracle databases?
|
| |
|
Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase as well as many other transaction
servers such as MS Exchange Server require special handling during
backups. This is the case with any backup solution and is not specific
to IBackup based Backup.
To properly
backup these servers, you must either stop the appropriate Server
process, perform the backup, and then restart the process (which
may not be practical), or you may configure server to dump its databases
to an on-disk backup file. Most of these database servers allow
for dumping the database to an on-disk backup files. You need to
refer to appropriate documentation on these servers to accomplish
this. IBackup can then backup the on-disk file.
Another
option is to use a third party plug-in to allow for backing up of
open databases. IBackup has been tested to work well with 'Open
File Manager' from StBernard Software. For details, please follow
the link: http://www.stbernard.com/products/ofm/products_ofm.asp.

Can
I change my IBackup password while in the middle of a scheduled
data transfer? |
| |
|
This will result
in transfer errors. If you change your password, please make sure
that you reschedule your application with the changed password information. |
| |
|
 |
| |
|
Why am I getting a white blank space in the
demo pages? |
| |
|
IBackup uses Flash
for animated interactive demos for the products. Flash plugin is a
default plugin with the latest versions of all browsers. If this problem
occurs chances are that your browser does not have Flash Plugin. You
can download the plugin from http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages_mmcom/flash.html
This is a freeware
and will take less than a minute for installation from a standard
56K line. |

How
to transfer Files/Folders without downloading any application? |
| |
|
If you want to
transfer Files/Folders without downloading any IBackup application,
then you may use browser based Smart-IB and Web-Folders. Smart-IB
cannot be used if you are connected through a proxy server. However
you can use web-folders. Web
Folders supports most firewalls and proxy server without changing
the settings. |

|
How
long would it take to transfer, say 500MB with my high speed internet
connection? |
| |
|
The time taken for an online backup of your data depends on the speed
of your internet connection. Also, if you are backing up, your upload
speed would be more important than your download speed. For instance,
- if your upload speed is 250Kb/sec,then the estimated time to transfer
500MB of uncompressed data using IBackup for Windows with compression
option checked would be approximately 90minutes. - if your upload
speed is 1Mb/sec,the estimated time to transfer would be approximately
20minutes.
We are assuming
a compression ratio of 1:3 which is sort of average. (i.e. a 500MB
of un-compressed data will be compressed to about 170MB of compressed
data). The compression ratio could be higher or lower depending
on the type of files transferred. A text file or an Access database
could have a compression ration as high as 8:1 or a multi-media
file, which is usually compressed by design to begin with, might
have no impact with the IBackup's compression. So the above estimates
could vary significantly, based on the type of files you may be
transferring.
Note: These
estimates are for the first transfer, since incremental backups
are usually significantly less time consuming, but differ greatly
on the changes to the file system, and so can not provide estimates
on the same.
