   What is IDrive and IBDrive?

IDrive and IBDrive are IBackup applications which when downloaded and installed will map an IBackup account as a network drive on the user's computer. Users can map, drag and drop files to their IBackup account from Windows explorer. It also allows users to open and save files stored in their IBackup online backup/ storage accounts directly from their associated applications like Microsoft Office. IDrive supports SSL encryption for data security.

Please note that IDrive and IBDrive are same applications but for different operating systems. While IDrive is compatible with Windows 2000, NT, XP Professional and Home editions, IBDrive will also work with Windows 95, 98 and ME.

The questions covered in this FAQ addresses both IDrive and IBDrive.

When you right click, you get a pop up menu, under which you will find the option to "Flush Cache". Clicking on this button flushes the IDrive cache completely. IDrive flushes cache contents automatically upon each login. Also it is recommended that Cache is flushed on a regular basis if IDrive is not disconnected/connected frequently.

Which Network Drive application to choose IDrive or IDrive Plus, Why
 have two Network Drive Applications?

These two applications are based on different protocols, and each has advantages over the other. To cover the widest range of online network drive usage, we offer both. But first, please note that IDrive Plus works only on 2000/XP, and may require firewall settings.

Browse files and folders - IDrive is better due to its better file and directory caching.
Edit, Cut-n-Paste, Drag-n-Drop, Delete small files - IDrive is faster.
Edit, Cut-n-Paste, Drag-n-Drop, Delete large files - IDrive Plus is faster.
Concurrent updates to Office files - IDrive Plus only
Streaming small Multi-Media files - IDrive Plus is better.
Streaming large Multi-Media files - IDrive Plus only, IDrive would require a complete download before it can start streaming, IDrive Plus can start instantaneously.
File Synchronization using third party applications - IDrive Plus is better.
Backup using third party applications such as Veritas Backup - IDrive Plus only

When my mouse pointer hovers over a file in Windows Explorer, the  download dialog box appears and IDrive downloads the file: why?

This is actually a feature of Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer has the ability to extract meta information from the file and display it in a small pop-up/tooltip window when the mouse hovers over the item. This feature should be disabled when using IDrive.

To disable this feature, launch Windows Explorer and open the Folder Options dialog. Next, disable the "Show pop-up description for folder and desktop items Click OK to close the Folder Options dialog and restart Windows.

How do I delete the username and password from the login screen after  logging out of IDrive?

Once you finish accessing your online storage IBackup account, disconnect IDrive application and do the following:

1. Click on IDrive application and when you get the Login menu, delete the Username and Password.
2. Click on "Cancel" button of the application.

I can edit an excel/word/access file, make changes, but errors on saving  the file..why?

This might be due to the long file name of the file with some special characters. Please rename it to a smaller name with no special characters, and try the operation again.

Do I need to adjust firewall settings for IDrive?

Most cases, IDrive should work through without any firewall setup. In some rare cases, you may need to do specific firewall setups.

IDrive should work with zonealarm without any special setups. In some rare cases, you may need to add 64.14.192.117, 64.14.192.119 and 64.14.192.230 to trusted IP addresses/hosts.
