   What are sub-accounts ?

A Sub-Account is an IBackup account that you can create on any folder in your online backup account to provide access only to files (and folders) within that folder to other employees and business partners. A Sub-Account has access to all IBackup features except the main account's profile, and is restricted to the folder assigned to it. Please visit Sub-Accounts page for more information.

You can select the home folder of the sub-account in the following way:

1. Folder with the sub-account username in the current folder by simply entering the account information and clicking on "Create New" button.

How to provide 'restricted' access to sub-account holders..a sample case

Suppose you want to provide access to two of your employees/colleagues in such a way that employee1 has access to all data except two folders (say cash records and employee records), and Employee2 has access to only two folders
(say Correspondence& Maintenance).

As a first step, Create a sub-account for your employee1 say Secretary1. Create a top level folder called Secretary1. Keep all your folders under Secretary1 except those folders to which you do not want to give access. Define home folder as Secretary1 folder for Secretary1 subaccount.

Now, Create a folder say Secretary2 and map this folder as home folder for access to your second employee -Secretary2. Under this folder, move the two folders (say correspondence & maintenance) You can now provide access to this subaccount (Secretary2) to your employee-Secretary2.

Also note that deleting a sub account will not delete its contents. In view of the above example, if you delete the sub accounts Secretary1 and Secretary2 the contents or data in Other folders, Correspondence and Maintenance will not be deleted or lost.

How do I create sub-accounts for read only access?

Click on 'Advanced' when you create the sub-accounts, and follow the instructions on the screen. If you want to edit an existing sub-account and convert it to a read only sub-account, simply click on 'edit' on the sub-account management screen, and check 'read only'.

What are the FTP limitations for sub-accounts?

Please note read only sub-accounts do not support FTP. They will have to use IDrive, IBackup for Windows or browser application to work with read only sub-accounts. If they need FTP access, then they need to write enable the sub-account.

How to implement department wide backups using sub-accounts?

Here is a sample scenario on how to implement the same. Let us say you need to backup 5 workstations, with a need to backup 2GB for each workstation. First create a master account through IBackup's registration for 10GB. Then, create 5 Sub-Accounts through Web-Manager, say sub1, sub2...sub5 using the 'basic' option that automatically creates top level folders with the same name as the Sub-Account name and maps the Sub-Accounts to the respective top level folders. Make sure you allocate quota for the Sub-Accounts appropriately (say 2GB for each Sub-Account) . Each Sub-Account will have its own username and password. Now download the scheduling application IBackup for Windows, use respective Sub-Accounts to login to IBackup, set scheduling parameters. You can manage the entire backup of your department's workstations using one master account for easier control of data, space, and of course billing.

Which is the best option to create a Sub-accounts when the directory  structure is large?

"Advanced" option loads the entire directory structure and it might hang for large directory structures. The best way to create sub-account on a folder is to navigate to the folder within Web-Manager and then hit 'Sub-Accounts'.

How do you set the home directory of a sub account to be a folder within
a folder?

You have to first browse to the folder on which the sub-account needs to be created within Web-Manager, and then click on 'Sub-Accounts' and follow directions.
